Today Daniél and I drove south to Pie Town (actual name of the town). The purpose of our journey was to see about getting a dog. Pie Town is about 3 hours drive. I know what your are thinking, “aren’t there dogs closer to where you live?”
Well, yes. Not my idea.
The drive was nice enough though and along the way we got a glimpse of the VLA, something I have wanted to check out for some time. Although, to tell the truth, my expectations were pretty low because I have serious doubts about the plausibility of actually picking up stray radio waves from aliens in space. Still, I got chills driving by, just contemplating how far into the vastness of space this facility was ‘looking’. Like a giant arm grasping in the darkness, a sign of our the spectre of lonliness that haunts us.
Down the way, just south of Pie Town (named for their pies, in fact) lies ‘Fur & Feathers’ animal assistance. As we pulled up a pack of dogs greeted us with a barking chorus. They mostly stayed back as we got out of the car. Eventually, a fairly large, 3-legged white dog lept up on me and that pretty much wiped away any pretext of ferociousness as all the other dogs came in to compete for attention.
Pretty wild time, seeing a pack of 20-30 dogs interact. Mostly they did pretty good. Some real nice dogs in there, but I like almost all dogs anyway. We came mostly to check out ‘Smiley’, a small copper colored dog that Daniél had seen advertised. By the time we left we were thinking of getting both Smiley and her mother, Francesca. We didn’t take them home but we did make tentative plans with the humans there to have them brought up on Wednesday. Ooohhh boy. Here we go.
(interesting note for some: on the drive back we discussed changing their names. Struggling to come up with names we thought about interpretting their names in other languages. What does Francesca mean? Someone from France. ie. French, which was my first dogs name. Pretty funny.)
Unfortunately, we forgot to take any pictures. Sorry.
Update: here are pictures of our happy dogs at home:
